Johsira "Johsie" Cruz was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Her father was a missionary for the Southern Baptist Convention for more than 35 years in Venezuela and the United States. Following in her father's footsteps, she earned her BA in Sacred Ministries from Baptist Theology Seminary of Venezuela in 1993.

In 1995, Johsie legally immigrated to the United States. She became a US citizen in 2005.

Johsie works for The Meridian Group in Alpharetta. She is also VP of RACI, whose mission is to educate the Latino community about the US Constitution and laws in their native language.
